Summary: The Kakamega County Lands Executive has announced a fast-tracked integration with the national lands portal to clear thousands of pending title deeds and eliminate fraudulent broker syndicates.
The County Government of Kakamega, in partnership with key national survey and land administration agencies, has initiated a comprehensive digital upgrade of its land registry database. Aimed at curbing rampant land fraud, double allocations, and speculative cartels, the new system introduces blockchain-backed title verification and automated lease processing.
Speaking during a stakeholder briefing in Kakamega town, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands noted that over 4,500 historical title deed backlogs are currently undergoing digitisation.
“We are sealing every loophole exploited by unscrupulous brokers who prey on landowners. From today, all subdivision requests, searches, and transfers will leave an immutable digital footprint,” the CECM stated.
Local landowners and elders have welcomed the move, noting that protracted boundary disputes and missing registry files have hindered local investment for decades. Property owners can now access preliminary digital verification desks at the Huduma Centre and county sub-county headquarters starting next week.
